Aikido is a Japanese form of martial arts. Aikido initially started off by a Japanese martial arts expert called Ueshiba Morihei. The word Aikido has been derived out of Japanese words, the ai means unity and harmony, the ki means vital breath and energy, while do means way.

Aikido is a special type of martial arts which mainly concerns with the vital energy that is the ki, in the stomach of the body to defeat your opponent.

Aikido is a kind of art which actually works on attacking the opponent with a specific way by pressing the opponents’ certain nerves where the challenger can be defeated with minimal risk on the person executing the strike.

Aikido concentrates on getting harmony among the ki and Tai. To achieve the harmony there has to be an exercise done which requires the learners focus and determination.

Aikido has a specific uniform for itself. The uniform is called Aikido GI. The GI is a special Japanese name which stands for attire for any form of martial arts. Most people call it GI or DOGI, for the special attire used in the training of Aikido.

There are a different set of preferences for each individual type of martial arts. As Karate needs to have a lightweight GI and Judo needs to have a heavier GI – the Aikido GI depends on the practitioners’ preferences and choices.

Any sort of Aikido GI maybe used by the learners of Aikido, be it single weave or double weave. Aikido doesn’t require much jumping around or any such practice that may require the attire to have any tear or destruction. The uniform is usually in blue, white, or maybe in black colors. It is preferred to have complete cotton fabric.

If you are buying yourself an Aikido GI, be sure that it is comfortable and easy to wear!
